On several occasions, God promises to renew His people with “NEW SPIRIT”. These passages can be found in: –
Ezekiel 11
Ezekiel 36
Jeremiah 31, and
Hebrews 8
One of these bible reference attached below:-
Ezekiel 11:17-21 GNT
|
In the context, God condemned and scattered the Israelis because of their sins repeatedly. God punished the old Israelis’ sins to show to all nations that He is holy, who calls forth loyalty and obedience (Ezekiel 36:22-23).
At His appointed time, God shall then gather back His people from nations, purify them and shall give them a new Spirit and new heart. He shall take away their stubborn heart of stone and give you an obedient heart. (Ezekiel 36:24-27).
In short, the process of scattering due to sin, followed by gathering and renewing—is a powerful portrayal of His divine justice, mercy and holiness.
With that it has come to the pivotal verse. The purpose of giving His people with “New Spirit” so that they shall “FOLLOW MY LAWS AND KEEP ALL THE COMMANDS I HAVE GIVEN YOU (Ezekiel 11:20 & Ezekiel 36:27 GNT).“ And only they follow His Law and commands, the next verse is saying “You will be my people, and I will be your God, and shall then grant them plentiful, shield them from famines (Ezekiel 36:28-29)”.
In the Amplified Bible, the word ‘Laws’ is translated as ‘Walk in My STATUTES and keep My Ordinances.’ This term is not singular; it is in plural form. It does not refer to the singular law of ‘Love your God with all your heart and might’ as most modern preachers like to proclaim.
In light of this, to follow God, His people need to be Law, and commands abiding. Those who believe no law under the New Covenant would have problems identifying with Ezekiel 11, 36 and Hebrews 8. The subsequent verse is saying God will punish His New Covenant people for not follow His Law (Ezekiel 11:21).
Many popular bible teachings like to proclaim “Greatly Blessed, Highly Favored and Deeply Loved” would have problems too. It is the “DOING AND ABIDING” of His calling and obedience to His commands/ Laws shall be blessed with plentiful. It is not “SEE JESUS FULFILLMENT IN EVERY PAGE” as what these famous preachers advocate. Rather, the new Spirit given to the believers so as to empower them to live and abide in accordance with His statutes, law, and discrete activate.
The shift from the Old to the New Covenant underscores a radical changes in God’s guidance of His people to abide His Law from within. While the Mosaic Law, inscribed on stone tablets, served as an external code that required strict adherence. However, it often highlighted human shortcomings and the inability to fulfill the law’s requirements perfectly.
Rather, the New Covenant, as prophesied in Ezekiel 11, Ezekiel 36, Jeremiah 31:31-34 and affirmed under New Testament of Hebrews 8:10, sees God’s law imprinted on the very hearts and minds of believers by the Holy Spirit. This leads to a more genuine, heart-led obedience, that is more effective in guiding His people from inner calling of the Spirit.
SUMMARY
A brief sequential summary of Ezekiel 11:17-21 and Ezekiel 36:24-27 as:
– It was because of repeated sins; God condemned and scattered the Israelis.
– In the Old Covenant, the Holy Spirit did not dwell in the hearts of His people. Therefore, these verses signify the promise of the New Covenant.
– The indwelling of the Spirit and replacement of the fleshy; stony heart with new heart is to ensure His people obey and follow His Laws. (Ezekiel 11:20/ Ezekiel 36:27)
– In the context, the Laws is in plural. It is not a simple “Love the Lord with all you heart and soul” that sufficiently covers. (Ezekiel 36:26)
– Next, it is when people obey His Laws, statues, ordinances, that His people are blessed with plentiful (Ezekiel 36:29-30)
– It is only when they keep His laws and faithfully obey all my commands, God shall then be their God (Ezekiel 11:20).
– God will punish His people should they sin again Him (Ezekiel 11:21).
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the new covenant doesn’t abolish God’s laws but rather renews them, embedding them within the believers’ hearts and minds, facilitating a deeper and more genuine adherence to His will and law. This way, believers are empowered to live out their faith authentically, aligning with the divine law and purpose.
Finally, it’s important to note that for those who says God has forgiven all believers’ past, present, and future sins may run into issues. The irony is that He will still punish sin (Ezekiel 11:21). Amenbible
