END TIMES: DANIEL’S 70

END TIMES: DANIEL’S 70

This study showcases that we are now living in the final “week” of Daniel 9’s seventy-week prophecy. There is no “Prophetic Time Gap” of the Church Age standing in between Daniel’s 69th and final week. That means, Daniel’s prophetic timeline continues from 69th week to 70th week without a gap.

Importantly, in this current church age, we are already in the first segments of 3 ½ years of the final week. This first 3 1/2 years segment is known as the Great Tribulation. And it shall end with “Armageddon”.

Whilst, the second portion of 3 1⁄2 years, is called the “Wrath of God”, and it shall conclude with the battle of “Gog and Magog”.

As the human time clock is clicking, we can be assured that the fullness of His divine revelation is coming to an end soon. Whether welcomed or resisted this important truth, we are living in the era symbolized by the ten toes of Daniel’s statue. The prophetic timeline of Daniel’s 70 weeks is part of the Daniel statue. Let’s unfold scriptural below.

DANIEL’S PROPHECY UNFOLDING
Aside from the Book of Revelation, Daniel 9 offers perhaps the most direct and profound prophetic framework for understanding the end-times eschatology.

Moved by the revelation of Jeremiah’s seventy weeks prophetic warning, Daniel turns to God in deep intercession, confessing the sins of His people and pleading for mercy and restoration (Daniel 9:3–21). In response to this heartfelt prayer, the Lord hears and answers. The angel Gabriel is sent to Daniel, bringing divine insight and unveiling a greater decree of the seventy weeks; a prophetic timeline ordained by God to fulfill His redemptive purposes (Daniel 9:23–24).

In Daniel 9:25, the angel Gabriel gives Daniel more details about the 70 x 7 timeline:

  1.   From the time a command is given to rebuild the Temple, there will be seven sets of seven years (7 weeks).
  2.   Then, after sixty-two more sets of seven years (62 x 7; or 62 weeks), the Anointed One will be put to death or cut off. Obviously, the Anointed One is referring to the crucifixion of Jesus on the cross, and
  3.   The final week, or 7 years

To recap and reinforce, this prophetic makes up of the structure of “7 + 62 + 1” or a total of 70 weeks lays out a divine plan of:
~ restoration (7 weeks / 49 years),
~ revelation (62 weeks / 434 years), and
~ redemption (1 week / 7 years).

Despite widespread denial, the first two segments of Daniel’s 70 x 7 prophetic timeline have already unfolded and fulfilled. The Temple was being rebuilt in Jerusalem and the Messiah or the Anointed One was being cut off.

Over the centuries, scholars and interpreters have struggled to calculate this timeline precisely; whether using Hebrew calendars, solar years, or even lunar cycles. None of these human calendars  can fully align the 490-year framework with mathematical accuracy. This suggests that the numbers can not take it literally. It is about a divine symbolic timeline that is anchored in God’s purpose, not human time clock.

If believers choose to examine these two fulfilled prophecies through a human mathematical lens, certain discrepancies naturally emerge:

  • From King Cyrus’s decree to rebuild the Temple in 538 BC to its completion in 516 BC, the actual duration is 22 years. Yet Daniel 9 describes this period as “7 weeks,” or 49 years (7 x 7) years. It reveals a gap of 27 years between the historical timeline and the prophetic framework.
  • Likewise, from Artaxerxes’s decree in Ezra 7 to restore Jerusalem around 457 BC to the crucifixion of Jesus in AD 30, the span totals approximately 487 years. This exceeds the 62 weeks (or 434 years) that prophesied in Daniel 9. Again, it highlights a 53-year discrepancy when measured by conventional calendars.

Therefore, the discrepancies between Daniel’s total prophetic sixty nine (69) weeks and human calendar calculations highlight that these “weeks” are not to be interpreted as literal human weeks. Hence, the final “one week”—whether understood as seven years or two segments of three and a half years—cannot be confined to a conventional calendar either. It is about His calendar and His divine purpose, not ours.

Not only has mankind struggled to align the 70 x 7 prophetic framework with any human calendars, but Daniel 9:27 adds further complexity. Scriptural, in the middle of the final week (3 1⁄2 years), the sacrifice and offering are brought to an end due to desolation. This suggests a split within the last seven years, often linked to great tribulation or covenant disruption.

Because human calculations often struggle to reconcile the timeline of the seventy weeks, some have proposed the ‘Gap Theory’ in this era of Church Age.

According to this teaching, church age is living in a PROPHETIC PAUSE, in between Daniel’s 69th and 70th week takes place. In other words, the seven years is futurity, yet to come. This teaching implies the 490 year (70 weeks) timeline is not continuous. A simple illustration of this teaching as below
END TIMES: DANIEL’S 70
However, when Daniel 9:26–27 is read as a unified whole, it becomes evident that there is no temporal “Prophetic Time Gap” inserted between 69 weeks and the final 1 week in Daniel’s prophecy.

Instead, the bible presents a continuous sequence following the crucifixion of the Anointed One, the destruction of the Second Temple initiates the final seven years in the climactic “week” of the seventy-week framework. Midway through this final week, after 3½ years, sacrifice and offering are brought to an end, and desolation is unleashed through abominable acts.

To be honest, whether it’s the 7 weeks or the 62, scholars have long struggled to align these periods precisely with any human calendar. So why, then, should the final week be interpreted as a literal seven years with exact precision?

REVELATION 12
There is considerable debate surrounding the identity of the woman described in Revelation 12. Scriptural, she will remain on earth for 3½ years, or 1,260 days (Revelation 12:6; 14). Some interpret this woman as a symbolic representation of the Church. We will explore this interpretation further in a separated posting.  Under this perspective, it is not just supported and suggested that the Church shall be on earth for 3 ½ years but also currently living within the 3 1⁄2 year period of Daniel’s 70 weeks prophecy (see Daniel 9:24–27).

Matthew 24:14 declares that “the gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all nations.” However, the appearance of Christ’s return is only described in verses 30–31. Therefore, whether we like it or not, evangelism and preaching of gospel is the church’s mission and calling as stated in Matthew 24:14. If the church age is not included in Daniel’s seven-year timeline, then Revelation 12 and Matthew 24 become problematic. The theology of the prophetic gap theory cannot be reconciled with these two passages. Revelation 12 implies that the church age falls within the three and a half years, yet the preaching of the gap theory excludes the church age from the seven-year prophecy.

Furthermore, Revelation 12 appears to situate the church within the 3½-year framework, whereas the Prophetic Time Gap model removes the church from the entire seven-year period. This divergence invites deeper reflection on how these timelines and mandates align.

Hence, excluding the church age from Daniel’s seven-year timeline makes it difficult to reconcile with both Revelation 12 with Matthew 24. Revelation 12 places the church within the 3½-year span, while the Prophetic Time Gap view removes it entirely.

TEMPLE OF CHRIST
In this Church Age, God’s people are the living temple of Christ, offering praise as spiritual worship (Hebrews 13:15). As the Third Spiritual Temple, the Church continues the worship and sacrifice of the Old Temple, though not fully aligned. According to Daniel’s prophetic timeline, these offerings will cease midway through the final seven years. In short, Church services reflecting Old Temple worship are destined to end at the 3½-year mark.

It is not a matter of the Church replacing Israel, but rather of Jew and Gentile Christians being joined together as one body in Christ that is built into a unified spiritual Temple (Ephesians 2:19–22; 1 Peter 2:5). Such a view affirms that not even there isn’t any “Prophetic Gap” in the Daniel’ vision of 70 weeks but also there will not be a third physical Temple being built before the end of eschatology.

Furthermore, the recent Israel-Hamas war has intensified tensions and global criticism toward Israel. In this climate, reclaiming the holy land from foreign nation for rebuilding the Third Physical Temple seems increasingly unlikely.

Indeed, the destruction of the second temple and the establishment of the Church Age is the starting point of the final week. This is what Jesus foretold in Matthew 24, Luke 21 and Mark 13 about “When you see the fig leaves twig, the summer is near”. The twig of the fig leaves, unfortunately, is not about Israel returning as a nation in 1948. God is not interested in building an earthly nation. And God’s people or Body of Christ is by both Jew and Gentile churches, not just Israelis. Hence, the twig is the birth of the Church. The establishment of the Church Age during the ‘summer’ season signifies that it is building in a time marked by intense suffering and great prosecuted period. Nonetheless, Church services have replaced the old Israelis Temple as the worshiping sanctuary. Further details of this study can be found at: End Times: Summer

In short, we’re not just within Daniel’s final week, but we’re nearing its 3½-year midpoint. The Temple worship and offering continue through the Church Era.

GREAT TRIBULATION V.S THE WRATH OF GOD
This insight challenges conventional tribulation frameworks; whether pre-, mid-, or post-tribulation views within millennial theology. Traditionally, scholars debate whether the tribulation begins, intensifies, or concludes within the final seven years of history. Yet, a close reading of Daniel 9:26–27 and Revelation 12 suggests the great tribulation is not in the future stage, but it is unfolding now and approaching the midpoint of the seven-year span.

Luke 21:23 and several translations of Matthew 24-21; such as AMPC, RSV, and NASB are using the term “GREAT TRIBULATION” to describe the intense hardship unfolding from the second Temple being destroyed. According to Matthew 24:29-31, Jesus will return for His elect at the close of this Great Tribulation, marked by cosmic signs: the sun will be darkened, the moon will turn red, and the stars will fall. That means those hardships, famine and plague, earthquakes, pestilence, wars shall intensify and manifest from the destruction of the second Temple till His coming to redeem His elect.

These celestial cosmic signs of sun darkest, moon turn red align with the opening of the sixth seal in the Book of Revelation 6:12–14 suggesting believers will experience the first six seals. Events like earthquakes, pestilence, inflation, and war are not isolated—they will intensify until Christ returns.

In answering Apostle John, one of the elders pointed to those people and said “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.”

Following the events of Revelation 6:16–17, the arrival of divine God’s wrath is declared: “Hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from THE WRATH of the Lamb.” Although one might expect the seventh seal to open immediately in chapter 7, it does not. Instead, God intervenes—redeeming and sealing His people during the unfolding of the sixth seal. This is why Revelation 7 presents the gathering of the 144,000 and the multitude in white robes; marking a pivotal moment of redemption and rapture at the midpoint of the final seven-year period. The latter half, the final 3 1⁄2 years, is then distinguished as “THE WRATH OF GOD“, which begins with the opening of the seventh seal and the trumpet judgments that follow.

In other words, the first half of the seven-year period is the ‘GREAT TRIBULATION,’ while the latter 3 1⁄2 years are ‘THE WRATH OF GOD.’ This perspective stands apart from the traditional millennial tribulation theories; whether pre-, mid-, or post-tribulation.

HE CONFIRMS THE COVENANT
In this perspective, the figure in Daniel 9:27 of “He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven’; in the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering”, can be understood as Jesus. Through His crucifixion and the inauguration of the Church Age, Jesus confirmed the NEW COVENANT over a seven-year prophetic span. However, midway through this final week; at the 3 1⁄2-year mark, the Church, symbolically the Temple, faces disruption.

Should this great tribulation or hardship period not be cut off, no one can survive (Matthew 24). This is attributed to the rise of the “abomination that causes desolation,” manifesting through false messiahs, deceptive prophets, counterfeit teachings, and misleading signs and wonders. As a result, Church services are curtailed. This interruption coincides with the rapture and the outpouring of divine wrath that is unfolding in the final segments of the 3 ½ prophetic period. In light of Scripture, how can the claim that “the world grows darker, but the church shines brighter” stand? In reality, the church is facing dark moments of false teachings, deceptive prophecies, and counterfeit miracles.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the covenant stated in Daniel 9:27 is not made and broken by the Antichrist, despite what many churches teach today. If the first two fulfilled segments of 7 and 62 weeks can’t be aligned with human calendar dates, it’s hard to argue that the final seven years follow a literal human timeline of 7 years. Most likely this 7 years  is symbolic, and it is a divine God time clock, not human timeline.

The Church Age has spanned about 2,000 years now. If 1 day equals 1,000 years (2 Peter 3:8), could 3½ days represent 3,500 years? No one knows. But we are surely living on the ten toes of Daniel’s statue. The Lord’s return is nearer now than ever. Come, Lord Jesus. Amenbible.
