RIGHTLY DIVIDE HIS WORD (1)

(1) INTRODUCTION
Based on Luke 4:19, there is a teaching that says we have to “Rightly divide His word”.

This school of thought is saying that in Luke 4:19 when Jesus quoted the Book of Isaiah 61:2, he closed the Book, and excluded the second part of Isaiah 61:2 which read “… and the day of vengeance of our God.”

Thus, this teaching is saying Jesus will not judge or vengeance on anyone on this earth. That means Jesus was only sent to preach good news to the poor, heal the heartbroken, grant freedom to all captives, and pardon all prisoners. In short, that teaching is saying that the “Now” word is a period of pure blessing, pure grace, and not judgment.

Significantly, the teaching is saying the vengeance of the Lord only happens on the second coming of the Lord. And that Christians will not face the Judgment Seat of God.

However, the same preacher jumps verse and continues on the rest of the blessing verses in Isaiah 61:3-11, in a separate sermon or preaching.

(2) ON A SEPARATE PREACHING
On a simplified note, according to the separate sermon, the same teacher, based on Isaiah 61:3-11 is saying:-
– The anointed one was sent to give people a crown of beauty for ashes.
– They will rebuild the ancient ruins.
– And they shall be called priests of the Lord, ministers of the God (Verse 6).
– Instead of shame and dishonor, they shall enjoy a double share of honor.
– And they shall possess a double portion of prosperity and everlasting joy (verse 7).
– They shall be recognized and honored among the nations (verse 9).

You see, Jesus came to exchange believers’ cursing with a double portion of blessings, honor, they said. Yes, not wrong. These are the rewritten versions of Isaiah 61:3-11. But I thought the same teaching is saying Jesus closed the Book of Isaiah on 61:2a recorded in the Book of Luke 4:19?

I thought they were saying Isaiah 61:2b; (…. and the day of vengeance of our God) will only happen in the second coming of the Lord?

Clearly, verses 3-11 are coming after verse 2b. Why are they teaching Isaiah 61:3-11 now then?  By their teaching, I thought those events in verses 3-11 were supposed to be happening after “and the day of vengeance of our God”?

No, they just love to preach selectively. They just discard the middle verse that is not in their favor. They like to misquote the bible to justify their points.

(3) QUESTION
As Christians, we need to ask:-

– Do we still live under Jesus’ earthly ministry; that is ”to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” and not vengeance” (Luke 4:19)?

No. To rightly divide His word, currently, we are living under Holy Spirit Generation or also known as Grace Period or known as the Church Age“. We are not living under Jesus’ earthly ministry anymore. Neither do we live under Benjamin, Joseph, Isaiah, Abraham, etc generation.

(4) ARE WE STILL IN JESUS’ EARTHLY MINISTRY?
Is there any difference between Jesus and the Holy Spirit’s Ministries?” Let’s look at
Matt 12:31-32
(NIV) 31 And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. (Matt 12:31-32)

It sounds like the Holy Spirit is superior than Jesus… We can blasphemy Jesus and not the Holy Spirit.
No, what it means is that those blaspheming Jesus in His earthly ministry can be forgiven but not in the Holy Spirit’s ministry or in the “Grace Period, Church Age.” The church age is the last atonement.

Even if there is a dispute on the understanding of Matt 12:31-32, we can safely say that there is a difference between Jesus’ earthly ministry and the Holy Spirit’s. The Holy Spirit is the One who fulfills all the blessings of Isaiah 61:3-11.

(5) CONCLUSION
To rightly divide His word, there is vengeance on this earth, should believers not walk rightly. Unless we are saying Isaiah 61:3-11 is only taking place after the second coming of the Lord.

Frankly, this is an alarming wake-up message for me. (See Ephesians 4,5 and 6). It also shows that true believers have the…
